MDOT recently replaced the signage along U.S. 78 in Mississippi with Interstate-grade signage, including exit numbers corresponding with the existing mileposts. (Alabama already has Interstate-type signs and exit numbers on their open sections of the U.S. 78 freeway.) While virtually every sign is being replaced, the most important changes are in the guide signs (affectionately known to roadgeeks as BGSes, for Big Green Signs), which will now be up to modern freeway standards.

This photo illustrates the difference between the old and new signage along U.S. 78. The new signage is also more reflective, but the photograph doesn't indicate that very well.   (1/29)
